Tips to follow during pregnancy
Avoid unpasteurised cheeses like camembert, brie and goats cheese as they contain bacteria that can be harmful for the baby.
Wash all fruits and vegetables to remove traces of soil and bacteria that could lead to parasites that are harmful for the unborn baby.
Limit tuna tins to 4 per week after the first trimester as it can contain heavy metals and pollutants harmful for the baby.During the first trimester cut them completely from your diet.
Limit caffeine to no more than 200mg per day which equates to 1-2 cups.
Important vitamins and minerals for pregnancy
(make sure you consult these with your doctor and dietitian first)
For BMI greater than 30kg/cm2 take 5mg/day of folic acid which is important for the development of the baby's organs.
10mg of calcium per day are important for the development of healthy bones and teeth.
Vitamin D is essential in order to be able to absorb calcium well and should be taken in 10 mg throughout the pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Supplementing with vitamin-A is NOT recommended during pregnancy as it is needed only in small quantities by the body. High vitamin-A should be limited during pregnancy. It is found in foods like liver, sausages and cod-liver pate. A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables and dairy products will provide you with the right amount of vitamin-A needed for the body!
